How to Root AT&T Galaxy Note 2 SGH-I317 I317UCALJ2 No Flash Counter Increase

AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 2 SGH-I317 now also can be applied root without increasing the flash binary counter. Thanks to MrRobinson (XDA – Recognized Contributor) for creating this root injected stock ROM build I317UCALJ2. The I317UCLJ2 is the original factory firmware built for AT&T’s Galaxy Note 2 and which is now used on this process. By adding a root image on it, you can automatically gain root to your device without compromising the binary flash counter to be triggered when flashing any modified firmware. So, this one perfectly works for those who do not want to void the warranty of your precious Galaxy Note 2.

A: No, your device stay locked from AT&T.

Can I unroot it easily, in-case I needed back to restore my device and looks likely remains untouched.
A: Yes, to revert back to factory stock, you just need to install back the unrooted or unmodified factory stock firmware.

Does all default apps or bloatwares from AT&T will remove?
A: NO, this is the default firmware, only root system images is inserted to this,  so all AT&T’’s bloatwares are still intact.

How to install Rooted Stock I317UCALJ2 on AT&T Galaxy Note 2 SGH-I317

Grab the Rooted Image I317UCALJ2:
Mirror 1: root66_ATT_I317UCALJ2.7z

Then extract or unzipped the root66_ATT_I317UCALJ2.tar.md5 from the root66_ATT_I317UCALJ2.7z file you’ve downloaded.

Odin flasher – Odin3_v3.07

USB Driver – SGN2 USB Driver (Install it first)

  • Make a back up copy of all important files stored from the phone, before you proceed. Although this will not wipe all data stored from your device (just for safety)
  • Use PC with Windows OS (Odin will not work on Mac and Linux OSX)
  • Make sure to fully recharge your device battery
  • Use the original supplied USB cable for your Galaxy Note 2.

Step 1: Run Odin on your PC desktop
Step 2: Boot the Galaxy Note 2 into download mode screen for Odin.
Turn it off, once completely shut down hold down the ‘HOME’ + ‘VOLUME DOWN’ buttons and press the ‘POWER’ button for about 2 seconds until a WARNING! Screen appears. Press the ‘VOLUME UP’ button to continue or enter Download Mode. It will then display an – Android Robot and says ” Downloading.. DO not turn off target”

Step 3: Connect the phone to PC via USB. Then make sure you can see as phone “Added” in Odin log box or a highlighted (blue color) COM:ID, once the device is detected or recognize with Odin.
Step 4: In Odin window, DO Not tick ‘RE-Partition’ only Tick ‘Auto Reboot’ and ‘F. Reset Time’ and nothing else.
Step 5: Now load the rooted stock image.
Click odin’s PDA button then locate and select the “root66_ATT_I317UCALJ2.tar.md5”

Step 6: Click on “Start” to begin flashing.
Step 7: Wait until the flashing finishes, DO NOT remove nor touch anything unless it completely finishes.
Step 8: Remove the phone from PC once completely rebooted.

That’s all! You may then confirmed if your AT&T Samsung  Galaxy Note 2 successfully  rooted by installing 3rd-party apps that requires root.

  2. how do you do a factory reset when its stuck on the samsung screen do you pull the battery then press the three buttons to do the reset ??
