Philz-CWM6 root kernel does not just root your Samsung Galaxy S2 but it also adds up the enhanced clockworkmod 6 full touch based recovery on your device in just simple steps ahead. This root is absolutely safe for it has a “Patched kernel”  to avoid brick bug issues. This is also a handy rooting technique by way of  just flashing it via Stock Recovery or in Odin without the frustrating yellow triangle.

How to root Samsung Galaxy S2 runs with I9100XWLSD 4.1.2 Jelly Bean using Philz Touch v4.22 with CWM6

There are two root packages you can choose, either install it via stock recovery or the tar file which can be flash through Odin. You can grab the files here –

Method 1:  Install Root via Stock Recovery Update zip

Recommended Method – Recovery (.zip) packages instructions – Will also root your phone

  1. They come in the form of files that can be flashed in stock recovery 3e: No Yellow Triangle
  2. Download kernel matching your ROM
  3. Put the previously downloaded file on your external sd card
  4. Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power)
  5. Select “apply update from external storage”.
  6. Now select the file you copied in previous step
  7. You are rooted + new PhilZ-cwm6 kernel with CWM6

Method 2:  Install Root using Odin

  1. Grab Odin3_v3.07
  2. Grab and install the USB driver
  3. Boot the device into download mode
  4. start odin3 and configure it as in picture below
  5. connect phone in download mode to PC via USB
  6. press start to flash the tar.md5 package
  7. to root, download the root file from here ( Choose Method 1)

  1. Thanks for the more elaborate explanation (i.e. compared with source).

However, I’d appreciate to know how I can un-root. Please advice.

    1. That sometimes occurs if you came from custom ROM, just perform wipe dalvik cache to resolve that issue.

  2. Hi Phil,

A quick question: does the Phone/PDA versions affect the kernel version I have to flash to have root access?
    My info:
    PDA: I9100XWLSD || PHONE: I9100BULS1 || CSC: I9100CNXLSC (Vodafone RO)

Or will it work with the files above?
    Thanks for the info.
