The HTC One M8 in Europe has received the official Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update with build version number 4.16.1540.8. Those who been looking for the full RUU 4.16.1540.8 which is officially signed and can be just simply flashed in SD card thru a stock recovery, it’s for you. The RUU is what we need if we want our HTC One M8 return to stock firmware. So we gonna flash RUU, right?
In addition, upon the installation of the official Android 5.0.1 RUU, it will wipe all your data so you should make a full nandroid backup first. Then ensure that your phone is recharge before anything else.
Note: All HTC One M8 with European CID, S-OFF is required prior to installing RUU. Others some that has S-ON such as with HTC CID_032 the RUU works fine but need to be with a relocked bootloader and stock recovery.
Relock your bootloader = “fastboot oem lock”

Copy the files to your SD card
Rename the file to: 0P6BIMG (make sure it’s zip file)
Insert the sdcard in the device, and boot your phone to bootloader,
Go into fastboot>>type fastboot oem rebootRUU fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip
As soon it’ll recognize the file and ask you for the update, just confirm it.
Just head-over at XDA-developer [djluisbento] original thread for further info about flashing RUU and restoring back your HTC One M8 to stock. For rooting, you need to install a custom recovery and the latest SuperSU. A TWRP 126.96.36.199 still worked, then flash the latest SuperSU so the root stick.
