Solve and Fix Kies Connection Problem to Get the Latest Firmware Update

This is not new, I knew a lot of Samsung android devices out there encountered some issues while updating their Samsung Galaxy Android devices using Kies and then suddenly just got stuck on error messages and cannot proceed to prior firmware update. ie Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and 4.1 Jelly Bean. This issues occurs on any Android devices, either a  Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, Galaxy Note or Galaxy Tablets.

Samsung devices uses two methods of firmware updating-  Kies which is to be installed on the users PC or laptops and then OTA (firmware over the air) update, but most often Kies is used by many.

Note: We cannot guarantee you that this will surely work. So, just give it a try and proceed whenever you like.

Here’s some common issues and log errors on Kies when initiating a firmware update.

“This device is not supported by Kies. Make sure that your device is supported and try again.” or “Your Device does not support software updating via kies”

“Device disconnected..” or “Device not recognized.”

“Connecting the device…” message. Then that message has been up for the past several minutes and even hours.

“Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again”

“Your firmware is up to date.” Even your Android phone’s firmware is already outdated since last year.

Possible causes why these errors keep appearing on Kies

  • Top of this issue is USB cable, make sure you have a genuine USB cable used.
  • Your device might be rooted and Kies is not guaranteed to work properly on rooted devices.
  • Your device already installed with custom ROM which Kies will read your phones system info then blocked your device from updating.
  • You must not downloaded the latest version of Kies, drivers of the device will also get an update from time to time since the firmware version is also changing and so Kies.
  • You did not Turn off the USB Debugging Mode. You will find this via setting under Settings > Applications > Development.
  • Sometimes when the update is new, too many users are too excited rushing to get the update then  Samsung’s servers cannot cope with the amount of people trying to update. It means that you may need to try on later time.
  • Some issues reportedly occurred regarding PC /laptop operating system Windows/MAC.
